The Northeast Biomedical Engineering League (NE-BME League) and BMES have signed an MOU to collaborate on the League’s annual Northeast Biomedical Engineering League meeting (NEBEC), which this year was held last at Temple University.
The agreement is meant to more opportunities for those in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic universities to present their work, connect with peers and industry, through a highly engaged regional network.
The tenets of the agreement include:
Greater visibility for NEBEC as a BMES-supported conference
More opportunities to showcase research and compete in design programs
Stronger connections to industry and career pathways
New webinars and programming focused on professional growth
If you are an undergraduate or graduate student looking to explore exciting career paths in biomedical engineering, don’t miss today’s Industry Connections Webinar hosted by the BMES Student Affairs Subcommittee. The webinar, TODAY, April 21, from 3 pm - 5 pm EST, offers students the opportunity to engage with professionals working across various sectors of the biomedical field.
What to Expect:
Keynote Talks: The first hour will feature an insightful keynote presentations from leading industry experts, providing valuable context and perspectives on the dynamic world of biomedical engineering.
Erin Spinner, Boston Scientific
James Kim, 551 Consulting
Interactive Breakout Sessions: Following the talks, we’ll break into smaller groups where students can interact directly with panelists in 15-20 minute sessions. This is your chance to ask questions, seek advice, and gain insight into both the technical and soft skills that are crucial for success in the field.
Holly Cotter, indieMedTech & White Lamb Medtech Consulting
Join us on April 28, 2026, at 2 p.m. EST for a webinar designed to guide prospective master’s students in BME through the variety of financial support options (from scholarships and grants to assistantships, employer or industry support, and unique funding streams such as the SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program). It will equip attendees with a decision framework to evaluate costs, benefits, obligations, and financial feasibility, helping them choose the best master’s program for them.
Speakers Include:
Aaron Burdette, PhD - Moderator, Assistant Professor of Practice, University of Cincinnati
Lesia Guinn, PhD, Program Manager Research Associate, Department of Bioengineering, Improving Access to Career and Educational Development (I-ACED) Program, Rice University
Marcus Huggans, PhD, Executive Director of Client Relations, GEM
Join leading researchers, innovators, and rising scientists at one of the premier gatherings in cellular and molecular bioengineering. The 2027 CMBE Conference will bring together the community to share cutting edge research, foster collaboration, and explore the future of the field. This highly anticipated conference offers a unique opportunity to connect with experts across academia, industry, and clinical research while engaging with the latest advancements shaping biomedical engineering. More details on programming, abstract submissions, and registration will be announced soon. In the meantime, make sure you stay informed and be the first to receive updates.
CMBE is proud to recognize the next generation of leaders in biomedical engineering through the Rising Stars Award. This honor celebrates early career researchers who are making significant contributions to the field and shaping the future of cellular and molecular bioengineering. As we look ahead to the 2027 CMBE Conference, the Rising Stars Award highlights the innovation, impact, and interdisciplinary collaboration that define our community. Stay tuned for more details on when applications will open and how you can be part of recognizing the rising leaders driving biomedical engineering forward.
Special Sessions applications are now being accepted for the BMES 2026 Annual Meeting. Submit a proposal to organize a session that brings together timely topics, fresh perspectives, and meaningful discussion across the biomedical engineering community. Special Sessions can include panel sessions, workshops, symposia, and networking or SIG-led events designed to complement the technical program and spotlight emerging ideas.
If you want to highlight interdisciplinary collaboration, lead a discussion on pressing challenges, or create space for community connection, now is the time to submit your proposal.

Advanced engineering tools such as particle image velocimetry (PIV) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) are rarely introduced in K12 education despite their relevance in modeling engineering systems. This study evaluates whether K12 students can meaningfully engage with these traditional graduate-level methods when applied to cardiovascular flows and delivered through structured modules.
